PsIP webinar series Phytosanitary irradiation Understanding and Unlocking potential: First webinar recording available

The first webinar of the PsIP webinar series is already available online.

With this webinar series, the PsIP hopes to promote collaboration and communication within our diverse community, by disseminating information and opening conversations about potential challenges within the food irradiation industry.

In this first webinar named: Overview Challenges and Opportunities, Yves Henon (iia Board and Advisor) presented an interesting presentation in the following line:

“Still a method nearly unheard of two decades ago, irradiation has found its place among chemical and non-chemical phytosanitary measures that provide biosecurity in international trade of fresh fruit and vegetables. The global trade of irradiated produce has now reached significant volumes. Irradiated fresh produce look good, taste good, are exempt of post-harvest treatment residues, and are affordable. This has been recognized by growers, traders, retailers and consumers in a dozen countries. Will phytosanitary irradiation keep growing at the current pace ? Non-science-based regulations appear to be the main obstacle to expansion . On the other hand, the simplicity of the process, its efficacy and competitive advantages for the environment are serious asset for the future. To make the most of these advantages, international cooperation needs to be continued and expanded”.
