iia Roadshow Beijing – Bringing together the International Irradiation Community.

The iia roadshow included an important component that aims to advance the discussion on phytosanitary and food irradiation.

China represents a huge opportunity for phytosanitary irradiation with willing stakeholders and available technologies but with infrastructure and regulatory challenges to address. The iia was pleased to be able to use the roadshow to announce a broadening in scope of its phytosanitary irradiation focus to include food and a new name for its initiative – Phytosanitary and Food Irradiation Platform (PFiP). In addition to a new name PFiP also announced a collaboration initiative with the International Food Ionizing Processing Symposium (IFIS).

The iia wishes to extend particular thanks to Ben Reilly of Steritech, Guoping Zhan of Sanya Biosecurity Centre (CIAQ) and Nadia Bouhafs, Minister Counsellor from the Australian Embassy in Beijing representing Australia’s DAFF who spoke at the iia roadshow.

In 2025 the IFIS symposium was held in China. IFIS has announced that the next symposium is heading to the heart of Brazil. The event is scheduled for Q4 2027 in Campinas.

In the coming weeks PFiP will announce further plans and initiatives for 2026/27.
