Three new irradiation treatments submitted to the IPPC

Three new phytosanitary irradiation treatments have been submitted by China to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) in September 2023.

The treatments concern three mealybugs:

1 – The aerial root mealybug, Pseudococcus baliteus Lit (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), an important invasive and quarantine pest;

2- The cacao mealybug, Planococcus lilacinus Cock (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), a destructive mealybug and a serious quarantine pest;

3 – The papaya Mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), a highly polyphagous invasive pest that poses a quarantine threat to tropical and subtropical countries.

 

Part of the research that led to these treatments was carried out within the framework of an IAEA Coordinated Research Project. The contributors to this large piece of work have published details of their research in the following articles:
