PsIP: Year in Review
The Phytosanitary Irradiation Platform (PsIP), one of the International Irradiation Association’s (iia) Industry Initiatives, focused on providing informational content in 2024. Created by the iia to provide a dedicated space to focus on advancing the commercialisation of phytosanitary irradiation globally, the PsIP has hosted three new webinars and one in-person workshop this year.
Webinars
This year’s PsIP webinars concentrated on Post-Harvest and Quality, addressing critical industry topics. Presented by leading experts, these sessions provided industry insights, proposed solutions to technical challenges, compared phytosanitary irradiation with alternative technologies, and gave a comprehensive insight into generic doses and their necessity.

Workshop
The ‘Unlocking the Potential of Phytosanitary Irradiation’ workshop, held before IMRP 2024 in Costa Rica, brought together 35 participants from 13 countries to explore and identify the necessary steps to support and promote the phytosanitary irradiation industry.
The interactive workshop included presentations, encouraged attendee discussion and debate, and closed by agreeing on outcomes and future actions for the PsIP.

Looking to 2025
Future actions discussed at the ‘Unlocking the Potential of Phytosanitary Irradiation’ workshop will guide the PsIP over the coming year, including:
- PsIP to identify opportunities for collaboration with complementary organisations in the broader food irradiation industry, including IAEA/FAO, IFIS, and the international fresh produce industry.
- Evolve to create a wider community of engaged participants
- Include new individuals to help support the PsIP Steering Committee
- Undertake initiatives to address matters of common interest such as:
- stakeholder mapping
- hosting more regional events
- evolving strategies
- documenting best practices to guide and expand the adoption of phytosanitary irradiation
We look forward to continuing our efforts to support the Phytosanitary Irradiation community in 2025.
Thank you to all who contribute towards the organisation and content for the PsIP, as well as our members for the invaluable support.
