27th Meeting of the Methyl Bromide Alternatives Outreach (MBAO). November 3-5, 2020 – Orlando, Florida
The Fumigation and Alternatives for Production, Storage and Trade Conference should be held on November 3-5, 2020 at the Sheraton Orlando North Hotel in Orlando, Florida. However, due to the uncertainties regarding the Covid—19 situation, the meeting might also take the form of an internet meeting via Zoom.
Under the Clean Air Act and Montreal Protocol, production of methyl bromide, a widely used fumigant in agriculture and forestry that is also an ozone-depleting substance, was phased out as of January 1, 2005 but there are many exemptions for users who do not have technically or economically feasible alternatives. The MBAO conference is devoted to the sharing of information on current and ongoing research into methyl bromide alternatives. Irradiation is one of the alternatives and has often been the object of dedicated sessions. The 27th MBAO will feature concurrent sessions concerning research on alternatives to methyl bromide for pre-plant, post-harvest and structural uses.
Attendance to MBAO conferences in the past has surpassed 400 researchers, growers, and interested persons, with a significant level of international participation.
