Monte Carlo simulation for validation of irradiated loads

An article to be published in the June 2022 issue of Radiation Physics and Chemistry but already available online presents a comparison of the results of a classic dose mapping and a Monte Carlo simulation. The work is a collaboration of  three iia members: IBA, Aerial and Trad. The object of the study was a pallet of fruits irradiated by X-ray for phytosanitary purpose.  Monte Carlo simulations were performed using MCNPX™ code and RayXpert® software. The study showed a good agreement between the Monte Carlo simulation results and the dose mappingsresults, indicating that Monte Carlo codes can be used for the calculation of dose distribution in loads of irradiated produce.
